Jot is built to keep your data on your Mac. This policy explains exactly what the app does and does not collect.
Every note you capture is stored locally, in a plain JSON file inside your Mac's Application Support folder. Your captures are never uploaded, synced, or transmitted to us or anyone else. The app has no servers of its own and no analytics.
Jot ships in two editions and neither one collects your notes. The Mac App Store edition is fully offline: it runs in Apple's sandbox, makes no network requests at all, and has no license check, since your purchase is handled by Apple. The edition sold from this website verifies a license key and checks for updates, both described next.
The website edition makes two kinds of network request, and neither includes your notes. First, it verifies your license key with our payments provider, Polar. When you activate the app or when it periodically re-checks your license, it sends your license key, an activation identifier, and our public organization id to Polar's API.
Second, once a day, and whenever you choose Check for Updates, it downloads a small
file from this website (jot.arunbrahma.com/latest.json) to see whether a
newer version is out. That request carries nothing about you or your notes.
Mac App Store purchases are handled entirely by Apple. Purchases from this website are processed by Polar Software Inc., acting as Merchant of Record; your name, email, and billing details are handled by Polar under their privacy policy. We never see your card details.
Jot requests no special system permissions: no microphone, no Accessibility, no screen recording, no contacts.
This site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages and sets no cookies of its own. Cloudflare processes requests under its own terms and may keep standard server logs.
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It is cookieless and reports totals by country, browser and referrer, never anything that identifies a person.
We also use PostHog (US cloud) to see where visitors lose interest: which pages they open, how far they scroll, which sections they reach, which links and buttons they click, where on the page clicks land, and how fast pages load. It runs in cookieless mode, so nothing is stored in your browser, and no session recordings are made. To tell visits apart without a cookie, PostHog keeps only a one-way hash of your IP address and browser details mixed with a value that changes every day; the IP address itself is discarded. We do not build profiles of visitors.
If you sign up for Jot news, or buy Jot from this website, your email address is kept with Resend, our email provider, so we can send you setup instructions and occasional release news. You can unsubscribe from the news at any time.
If you use the contact form, your name, email address and message are emailed to me through Resend so I can reply. This site does not store them. Cloudflare Turnstile, loaded only on the contact page, checks that a person and not a bot is sending the form; Cloudflare handles that check under its own privacy policy.
